The Root might not be one of the prettiest
of the eastern Wisconsin tributaries, but it tends to hold the
largest
fish. This river holds some hawgs in the spring and fall. The fall
brings a nice run of Chinook starting in August, with fish up to
35 pounds. With the Chinook run comes a small steelhead run and
also a nice Coho run. The fish usually average 4-12 pounds, with
a couple of larger fish. The lake-run browns start running in
late October and usually run through December. These browns get
BIG,
averaging
8-10 pounds, with some real monsters in the 20-25 pound range.
The Spring also brings in a nice steelhead and looper run with
fish in the 6-10 pound range, with an occasional 10+ fish. |
