The Milwaukee River is one of the largest tributaries
in Eastern Wisconsin and has runs in both the spring and fall.
In the fall, the Milwaukee receives a large run of Chinook salmon,
with many of the fish topping the 20 pound mark. The fish usually
continue coming in through the end of October and beginning of
November. The Steelhead usually follow the Chinook in to feed off
the eggs and feast on the dying Chinook. These Steelhead average
8-12 pounds, with some fish in the 15 pound range. Spring is probably
the best time to target the Steelhead, as the higher flows usually
bring in more fish. Flies bright in color usually bring in more
fish and some ferocious strikes. |
