The Lester River, right outside of Duluth, is a North Shore fisherman's dream come true. The river supports runs of Chinook and Coho's in the Fall, Loopers off the mouth in the Winter, and Steelhead/Loopers in the Spring. This river often gets overlooked, as most people head up shore further to fish the Sucker or the Knife. Often when this river has the least amount of fishing pressure, it can be full of fish. It is best fished during low light hours as its clear water makes for easily spooked fish. Morning tends to be the best time, as the fish are fresh and haven't been harrassed by anglers yet. Egg-Sucking Leeches and small egg patterns tend to be the hot flies and offer you the best chance to hook up with fish.
