The Willow River is less fished, but has the most potential of the Wisconsin streams to one day be a world class fishery. A couple of the rivers dams have been removed and the fish are just started to move into the new river areas. The majority of the fish are browns, although the river is often stocked with catchable size rainbows in the summer. The fish aren't plentiful, but the ones you do catch can get big. An occasional fish over 20 inches is caught every year and some larger rainbows in the 24-25 range get stocked every year. Fall is the best time to target the big browns with larger flies such as wooly buggers and muddler minnows.
