After a 20 minute walk down to the river through a cow pasture, we were really hoping the river would have some fish in it. We weren't disappointed when we came up the first hole and saw 8-10 trout holding in it. We fished the first hole down to the confluence with the Colorado. I landed one small rainbow and Rob landed a nice 16 inch rainbow in the lower section. Jerry and I headed back up river in search of some better holes. I fished a couple of holes, but without much success. I caught up with Jerry and he had already landed 4 fish and had another one on. He had found the honey hole and was catching browns on every cast. I left him to his hole, deciding I would head upriver as far as I could go and then work my way back down. I found one really nice hole and after catching a couple of small fish on top, I decided to switch to a red midge and miracle nymph. First cast behind a boulder produced a monster rainbow. I got one jump out of it before my hook popped out, leaving me in disbelief. I took a couple more casts in the same hole, but it wasn't interested. I found another huge rainbow close to 25 inches, but it was tucked under a boulder and I couldn't get a fly down to it. We all caught tons of fish and they weren't picky. We even finished the day picking them off with dries, all of us in the same hole. Midges, Black Beaties, Pheasant Tails, Prince Nymphs, and San Juans all produced. Adams and BWO's all caught fish on top.
