The Rush was high and muddy when we arrived near a favorite stretch of the Rush River. Within a couple of my first casts near the bridge, I hooked into a rather large fish. I wasn't quite sure what it was, but was pumped when I finally brought the fish up onto the river bank. It was a beautiful male brown close to 21 inches, my largest ever from the river. I took a quick picture and returned the fish to the river. We continued fishing upriver, but overall fish was pretty slow. We only landed a couple more fish the rest of the day. The was was up over 200 cfs, which is pretty high for the river. The best flies were Hares Ears and Red San Juans.
