We finally got out after during the first warm stretch of weather, hoping the fish would be feeding heavily. The river was incredibly low and all of the big fish were absent from the pools they had been in the prior month. The fish were a lot more spread out in the river and holding in faster water. There was a sporadic blue wing olive hatch, but there weren't really enough around to fish dries. Fishing was a little slow, but the fish we did catch pulled the indicaters under and were full of fight. We caught a couple of fish in the 16-17 inch range and had the best luck fishing the heads and tailends of pools. We also found a lot of brookies in the river, with some 9-10 inchers caught. Best flies continued to be hares ears and phesant tails, but we also caught some on San Juans.
