The Roaring River, located south of Cassville, is one of Missouri's top trout parks. This river holds the state record for the rainbow trout and is know for holding some large fish. During the summer months the river is crowded with fisherman, but come November the river turns to catch-n-release only and the crowds disappear. The catch-n-release season last through February and is the best time to catch a large fish. At this time there are many fish in the 3-5 pound range in the river, with an occasional larger fish. Someone will usually catch at least one over ten pounds every winter. These fish are hatchery raised, so they tend not to be picky and can be caught on a variety of flies.
