We returned the following summer in search of our first trout on flyrods. We began fishing near the Pactola dam again and Steve soon landed a nice 16 inch Cutthroat off a Light Hendrickson. The next day I finally landed my first trout with a flyrod, a 21 inch brook trout and the largest fish of the trip. It took a deerfield special right off of the surface and it was a battle I will never forget. We fished the stretch in town and caught a lot of nice fish up near the hatchery. They were all rainbows in the 12-14 inch range. They particularly like the deerfield special, a local fly tied by Al Campbell, and pheasant tails.
