The lower Oconto River from Stiles to the river's mouth is the spot to fish in northern Wisconsin for migrating fish. The dam in Stiles is a favorite place, as well as the bridge area just downstream. Steelhead begin to push their way into the river in the early fall, followed by king salmon, coho's, and browns. The spring-run steelhead begin entering the river again in early March and contniue to run into May. Egg patterns and wooly buggers are you best bet, with purple and black being the best colors. The steelhead average 5-10 pounds, with the Kings in the 10-25 pound range.
