After arriving at the Norfork, we found the water muddy from the runoff in the hatchery stream. We started out a couple hundred yards above Gene’s Trout, fishing the shoals with wooly buggers and San Juan worms. After no success we decided to move up closer to the dam where the clearer water was meeting the muddy hatchery water. It wasn’t long before I had one on using a red San Juan worm. After a short fight the small 12-inch rainbow was released. Rob and Elliott joined me and I proceeded to miss three more strikes while they each caught one. There were some rising fish, probably taking midges from the film but I couldn't get any strikes from them. The best place was right above the shoals before the water speed picked up. We caught all of our fish on either a red or chartreuse San Juan worm.
