The Frying Pan was again fishing tough in August, but we found a couple of new spots that produced fish. The flows were up at 180 cfs, but the fish still were easily spooked and tough to find. Fishing was tough in the bend pool and the flats, but we did land some fish in the 18-21 inch range. The fish took well-drifted black beauties and red midges. Fishing at the dam was also surprisingly tough. The water was up, which usually means big fish, but either they weren't in the pool or they weren't actively feeding. We caught some browns in the 16-18 inch range, with an occasional larger fish, but not many rainbows. We fished from early morning until around noon and we still had landed less then ten fish each. The fish definitely didn't seem to be feeding much and it didn't appear that a lot of mysis were flowing out. Fishing downstream produced a lot more fish and it was nice to get away from the crowds. Most fish were in the 12-14 inch range, but put up plenty of fight and definitely kept us interested.
