The Eagle River is a freestome river for its entire length and follows along I-70 before its confluence with the Colorado River. Much of the upper river runs through private property, but the river can be accessed further downriver near the towns of Edwards, Wolcott, Eagle, and Gypsum. The river for the most part seems to have an equal population of rainbows and browns. Early Spring and after runoff are the best times to fish the river, and again late fall when the browns run upstream from the Colorado.
