We were excited to hit the Blue during high flows, but were disappointed to find the river at only 70 cfs. Right away I hooked a 16 inch rainbow on my second cast and was optimistic about having a great day of fishing. I soon spotted and hooked a pig close to 25 inches, but had it throw the hook right away, leaving me a large knot. After getting the knot out, the fish was no where to be found. We spent the rest of the morning catching small cutts and browns. After heading up to the pool behind Cutthroat Anglers, I spotted a hawg in the pool above the bridge. After missing the fish a couple of times, I finally hooked it in the top lip on a miracle nymph. It headed for the bottom to drag its nose along the rock, hoping it could break my line. I managed to coral it into shallow water and get a net under it before it could make it over the rapids. It was a brightly colored female bow, close to 23 inches. I spotted another nice bow close to 20 inches, but we were unsuccessful in getting it to take a fly. In the afternoon we headed to the lower Blue to try to get away from the people and catch some less pressured fish. We fished the rifles and pools below the first turnoff out of town. We spotted an occasional brown, but none of them would take a fly. Finally I hooked into a fish that was a lot larger then I expected and watched as it took off down river on me. After a short fight I had the fish netted, a fat 18 inch rainbow, not a bad fish for the lower river. I landed two more fish, but that was all we caught between the four of us.
