We heard “The Fork” was one fire so skipped the Pan in the afternoon and hit up the river near 3-mile creek. The Fork gets a nice run of rainbow out of the Colorado, with some of these fish being in the 25-26 inch range. These fish are aggressive and right away I hooked up with two of these hawgs, but also lost them right away. Rob hooked up with a sweet bow close to 20 inches and also lost another one as we moved up river. As we moved upriver, every hole would produce 2-3 fish and some of them were big. We ended up catching 4-5 fish each, with a couple of 18-inch rainbows and browns being the largest. We lost some 20+ inch rainbows out in the current, but it was fun to have these fish smack the fly and take off so quickly. The weather was beautiful and the lack of other fisherman was attractive. This is definitely a river we are going to explore more in the future.
