The Knife River, just north of the Sucker, is a North Shore fisherman's dream come true. The river supports runs of Chinook and Cohos in the Fall, Loopers off the mouth in the Winter, and Steelhead/Loopers in the Spring. This river often gets overlooked, as most people fish just south of the Knife on the Sucker or Lester Rivers. Often when this river has the least amount of fishing pressure, it can be full of fish. It is best fished during low light hours as its clear water makes the fish easily spooked. The river can also fish well while off-color or muddy. Look for fish to congregate in the faster riffles and slow pools. Egg-Sucking Leeches and small egg patterns tend to be the hot producing flies in the Spring and Fall.
