With the warmer temperatures we returned to the Brule hoping some new fish had come up the river. The water was about 2 feet higher then normal, but the color from run-off wasn’t too bad. We hit up our favorite spot in the morning and it didn’t produce any fish for us. We moved down near the Hwy 13 Bridge, where I hooked our first steelie of the morning, but lost it in the current. We decided to head back above the FF Bridge and to go look for some new spots. We finally found fish in the faster riffles, where I finally hooked another nice fish. It was a fresh chromer close to 23 inches and it put up a good fight. We continued upstream in the riffles and I hooked another bright 18-inch male after losing a similar fish in the same section. Upstream we found a couple of fish on redds, but couldn’t get them to take any flies. We returned back downstream to where I caught the first fish hoping some new fish had moved upstream. Steve soon hooked into another close to 21 inches and Matthew caught a small one as well. I lost another nice one close to 25 inches while trying to get the net under it and caught another 18 incher. I also managed to loose 3 other fish in the same run. This time the fish were hitting yarn flies with chartreuse being the best color. We also took some on a chartreuse San Juan worm.
