We started out in the Pine Tree area and fished up to Gut Hole. The water was up from recent rain and had a brown murky color. I hooked into my first fish at the tail of a run, a nice 18-inch hen, but lost it trying to get it in the net. Hooked 3 more fish in the same spot but only managed to bring one small one in. Decided to head to some favorite runs below the swinging bridge we had hooked some nice fish a week earlier. The first run produced right away when I hooked a 26-inch hook jawed male, but also lost it in the current after a short fight. A couple of casts later I hooked my first Brule River brown trout, only to also lose it. We didn’t hook any more fish until the end of the day when I hooked a huge 28-inch female chromer in a favorite run. It took off downstream and I tried my best to keep up. I managed to bring it up to the top, but finally had it break my line with a slap of its head. It was a tough day for bringing the steelies in, but I had my best day hooking 8 overall. All the fish were hooked with green yarn and chartreuse San Juans.
