The Big Horn River is a well known flyfishing mecca.
Located
in southern Montana, the "Horn" is home to large rainbows
and is famous for its hard-fighting browns. This river may have
the
highest population of 20+ inch fish in the US, with the average
trout right around 18 inches. The river boasts of 3,000- 4,000
trout per square mile, although the river is finally starting to
return
to
its glory days of 7,000 fish per mile. Most people fish the river
from a drift boat, but good fishing can also be had wading. The trout
tend to congragate in the deeper holes in the first 3 miles below
the dam, but fish can be found throughout
the river. |
